It’s that time of year again. Instagram is flooded with all things pumpkin, startbucks is serving their pumpkin spice latte (yes even in Dubai) and its time to take out all things that make you feel warm an fuzzy. To be fair, the weather has cooled down signifiicantly and though the tempratures are not as low as compared to other parts of the world right now, it is a change for a desert dweller like me.  I am ashamed to say I actually put on a jumper in the morning the other day because it was a bit nippy only to realize it was 24 degrees C. In my defense it was 6am and I was a bit loopy.

That’s a good enough reason  for some autum baking and I wanted a chance to use my autumn spice mix I purchased from Peace of Bake. I decided to make a Spiced Pear & Almond Pecan Crumble using only fruit and nuts to keep it fairly heathy (Breakfast and dessert both sorted). I started of  by peeling, coring and halving the pears and then cooked them down a bit with the spice mix which made the whole house smell fantastic. Topped it with the nutty mixture and ready for the oven. As easy as that!

Here’s the recipe:

Spiced Pear and Almond Pecan Crumble
  • For the Spiced Pear:
  • 5 pears
  • 4 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp autumn spice mix
  • ½ stp vanilla
  • 1tsp lemon juice
  • For the Crumble:
  • 1 cup almonds
  • ½ cup pecans
  • 1 tbsp coconut sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • ¼ tsp autumn spice mix
  1. In a food processor, toss all the ingretends for the crumble and pulse until coarse crumbs form. Set aside.
  2. Add all the spiced pear ingreadients and cookuntil the pears soften
  3. Transfer the mix into a pie dish and top with the crumble mix
  4. Bake at 170 for 20 to 30 minutes
  5. Serve with greek yogurt or ice cream depending on how induldgent you feel
